This is the section this compendium was built to reach. Not the display of one tradition, but the encounter between two. Shakespeare’s four tragedies alongside China’s four great novels. Mencius and Aristotle on the nature of virtue. The Chinese four diagnostics and the Western four humors. Western four-part harmony and the Chinese pentatonic scale.
The comparisons here are not made to declare a winner. They are made because each tradition, seen from the outside, reveals something about itself that it cannot easily see from within. The conversations are real. The questions they raise remain open.
