This site brings together traditions from many civilizations, written in two languages, for readers from anywhere. A few words about how we write — and why — may be helpful before you explore further.

1. “东方”与“西方”
English
“Eastern” is not a single, uniform tradition. China, Japan, India, and the Arab world each have their own distinct histories, philosophies, and artistic expressions. Likewise, “Western” covers many traditions that differ greatly from one another.

2. “注脚”与“注释”
English
Some articles include short sections headed “A Note for…” or “A Note on…”. These are not meant to imply that any particular group of readers needs special help, or that others do not. They are simply points where the author thought an extra sentence of context might be useful — for any reader, from any background, who may be encountering an idea for the first time. We have not systematically revised every such heading, and we ask you to receive them in the spirit of helpfulness, not hierarchy.

3. “馈赠”及其他用语

In several posts on ancient civilizations, we use the word “gifts” (or “unique gifts”) to describe enduring contributions. We chose this word for its warmth and generosity, not to suggest one‑way giving or to rank civilizations. Each such post includes a clarifying statement that the gifts are not being compared; they simply record what each civilization originated that no other tradition had. Where other potentially sensitive terms appear, we have tried to write with awareness of their limitations, and we welcome thoughtful correction from readers of any tradition.

This site is not a translation site. The English and Chinese texts are not word‑for‑word translations of each other; they are parallel versions, each written to be read naturally in its own language, while sharing the same core information. Readers who know only one language will find a complete experience; those who know both may notice slight differences in phrasing or emphasis — differences that themselves reflect how languages carry meaning differently. We consider this a feature, not a flaw.
